GIGO and DIGO

GIGO gets bandied around as an epithet, a shorthand to describe some failing process in a computer system. It is often not the right terminology.

The correct one to use in most cases is DIGO.

What are they.

GIGO = Garbage In Garbage Out.

DIGO = Data In Garbage Out.

Scientists get to decide on if what is being done is GIGO.

Computer Scientists get to decide on if what is being done is DIGO.

Some of us have spent a lifetime trying to ‘fix’ complex, multi-system ,real time, little clockwork engines that keep on stuttering occasionally. We  are just mechanics, employed, often as not on an occasional basis, to come in and ‘make it work’.

Like Harry. I often wonder what would have happened if he had been asked to do the System Design, as opposed to ‘work for hire’ mechanic trying to Implement an already decided Design.
